Coach Ramirez: Diego, you look very tired, and your face is red.
Diego: I ran the whole lap without stopping, Coach!
Coach Ramirez: Good job. But on a hot day like today, you need to drink water before you run, not only after.
Diego: My water bottle is back in the classroom.
Coach Ramirez: Next time, bring it out to the field with you. For now, go get a drink at the water fountain, and then rest in the shade.

Choose the best answer.
Why does Coach Ramirez want Diego to drink water before he runs?
- So he does not get too hot and tiredCorrect answer
- So he can run faster than the other students
- So his water bottle will not be too heavy
- So he does not have to go back to class
Why “So he does not get too hot and tired” is correct
This asks the student to understand the speaker’s reason. The coach notices that Diego is very tired and red in the face on a hot day, and says he needs water before running. Drinking first helps keep his body from getting too hot.
Why the other answers are wrong
- So he can run faster than the other students — The coach is worried about Diego’s health, not his speed.
- So his water bottle will not be too heavy — The weight of the bottle is never mentioned.
- So he does not have to go back to class — Going back to class is not part of the coach’s reason.
