Common questions

What to know before a student starts using the practice materials.

Is this TELPAS practice site official?

No. TELPAS Practice Test is an independent educational resource and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Texas Education Agency. The original practice materials are modeled on published task types and scoring guidance. Read the site methodology and independence statement.

Which TELPAS grade band should a student use?

Choose the grade cluster that includes the student's current grade: grade 2, grade 3, grades 4–5, 6–7, 8–9 or 10–12. These follow the TELPAS reading and writing clusters. Kindergarten and grade 1 have no online test; teachers rate those students from classroom observation. Each grade page gathers the available domains and full practice tests in one place.

What does the TELPAS assess?

The assessment covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Each domain gets its own rating, from Beginning to Advanced High, and the four domains count equally toward a composite rating. Compare all four TELPAS domains.

Is an account required, and is progress sent anywhere?

No accounts or passwords. Visits are counted with Google Analytics, but answers, writing drafts, and recordings stay in this browser. Writing is sent out only when you ask for feedback on it, and the text of a spoken answer only when the live transcript is on; neither is kept. The live transcript uses your browser's speech service, which in Chrome sends audio to Google — it is off unless you turn it on. The privacy policy has the details.

Does the site give feedback on writing and speaking?

Yes, as practice only. A student can ask for AI feedback on a written answer, and get feedback on a spoken answer when the live transcript is on. It shows the rubric score the answer looks closest to, what went well and what to try next. It is not an official TELPAS score or proficiency rating.
