Mr. Lopez: Advising office, this is Mr. Lopez. How can I help you?
Monica: Hi, I am a junior at Lakeview High School, and I want to take a college English class in the spring for dual credit. My counselor said I should call you.
Mr. Lopez: Great. Before you can register, you'll need to show you're ready for college reading and writing. Most students do that by taking a placement test here on campus. It's free for high school students, and it takes about two hours.
Monica: Okay. When can I take it?
Mr. Lopez: Any weekday afternoon. You don't need an appointment. But registration for spring closes on December first, so come well before then. Bring a photo ID and a form signed by your high school counselor saying you're approved for dual credit.
Monica: I'll pick up the form from my counselor tomorrow morning. And I have a half day on Friday, so I could come in that afternoon.

Which two things does Mr. Lopez tell Monica to bring?
- A photo ID and a copy of her report card
- A form signed by a parent and the test fee
- A photo ID and a form signed by her counselorCorrect answer
- Her class schedule and a sample of her writing
Why “A photo ID and a form signed by her counselor” is correct
This is a detail question that requires holding two items in memory. Mr. Lopez says, "Bring a photo ID and a form signed by your high school counselor." The wrong answers each change one or both items, so a student who remembers only "photo ID" or only "form" can be caught.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A photo ID and a copy of her report card — He asks for a form from her counselor, not a report card.
- A form signed by a parent and the test fee — The form is signed by her counselor, and the test is free.
- Her class schedule and a sample of her writing — Neither of these is mentioned.
