Now Hiring: Teen Tech Aides
The Riverbend Public Library is looking for two high school students to help visitors use computers, printers, and other technology at the Main Branch this summer.
Duties: Help visitors log in to library computers, print documents, and scan forms. Show visitors how to search the online catalog and borrow e-books. Keep the computer lab neat, and report broken equipment to a staff member.
Requirements: You must be 16 or older by June 1. You must be available for at least two of the three weekly shifts: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. You must be comfortable explaining things patiently to adults, including people who have never used a computer. Speaking a language other than English is a plus but is not required.
Pay and dates: $11 per hour, June 9 to August 8.
How to apply: Pick up an application at the front desk of any branch, or download it from the library website. Return the completed application, along with one letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer, to the Main Branch front desk by May 9. Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview.
The question
Choose the best answer.
According to the posting, which is one of the duties of a tech aide?
- Repairing broken computers and printers
- Reporting broken equipment to library staffCorrect answer
- Teaching a weekly computer class for adults
- Choosing new e-books for the library to buy
Why “Reporting broken equipment to library staff” is correct
This is a detail question. The "Duties" section lists helping visitors log in and print, showing them the catalog and e-books, keeping the lab neat, and reporting broken equipment. The wrong answers take a word from the list, such as "broken" or "e-books," and attach it to a different duty.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Repairing broken computers and printers — Aides report broken equipment; they do not fix it.
- Teaching a weekly computer class for adults — Aides help visitors one at a time; no class is mentioned.
- Choosing new e-books for the library to buy — Aides show visitors how to borrow e-books, not choose them.
