The question
Choose the best answer.
Read the sentence. One of the underlined words or phrases has an error. The [list] of [supplies] for the art projects [are] [posted] on the classroom door. Which underlined word or phrase has the error?
- list
- supplies
- areCorrect answer
- posted
Why “are” is correct
This tests subject–verb agreement when a phrase comes between the subject and verb. The subject is 'list', which is singular, so the verb must be 'is', not 'are'. The plural word 'supplies' just before the verb is what makes the error easy to miss.
Why the other answers are wrong
- list — 'List' is the correct subject of the sentence and is spelled and used correctly.
- supplies — 'Supplies' is the correct plural after 'of'; the error is in the verb that follows it.
- posted — 'Posted' is the correct past participle after the verb; only the helping verb is wrong.
