The question
Choose the best answer.
Read the sentence. The underlined word has an error. My brother [go] to school with me every day. Which word should replace the underlined word?
- going
- gone
- goed
- goesCorrect answer
Why “goes” is correct
When the subject is one person (he, she, my brother), a verb for something that happens every day adds -s or -es. Go becomes goes. This rule is called subject–verb agreement, and it is one of the most common errors English learners make in writing.
Why the other answers are wrong
- going — "My brother going" is missing a helping word like is. It is not a complete sentence.
- gone — Gone needs a helping word like has, and it is used for the past, not every day.
- goed — Goed is not a word. The past tense of go is went.
