This sentence has an error. My cousin lives in houston, texas. Which sentence is written correctly?

  • My cousin lives in Houston, Texas.Correct answer
  • My cousin lives in Houston, texas.
  • My Cousin lives in Houston, Texas.
  • my cousin lives in Houston, Texas.

Why “My cousin lives in Houston, Texas.” is correct

The names of cities and states always start with a capital letter, so both Houston and Texas need one. Choice a fixes both and keeps the capital at the start of the sentence. Choice c adds a capital where it does not belong: cousin is not a name.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • My cousin lives in Houston, texas. — Houston is fixed, but Texas is a name too and needs a capital T.
  • My Cousin lives in Houston, Texas. — Cousin is not a name or the first word, so it should not have a capital.
  • my cousin lives in Houston, Texas. — The places are fixed, but the sentence must start with a capital M.
