Naomi: Darnell, is it true that you get to take Shelly, our class turtle, home this weekend?

Darnell: Yes! I have been waiting all year for my turn. I asked my mom about ten times.

Naomi: I took her home last fall. She eats lettuce in the morning, and she likes to sit on the flat rock under her lamp.

Darnell: Does she need anything else?

Naomi: Change her water on Saturday. And keep her tank away from the window. The sun can make her water too hot.

Darnell: Thanks, Naomi. I’ll write all of that down so I don’t forget anything.

Choose the best answer.

When should Darnell change Shelly’s water?

  • Every morning
  • On Friday
  • On SaturdayCorrect answer
  • On Sunday

Why “On Saturday” is correct

This tests listening for a time detail. Naomi says, “Change her water on Saturday.” The word morning is also in the conversation, but it goes with feeding, so the student has to match each time to the right job.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Every morning — The morning is when Shelly eats lettuce, not when her water is changed.
  • On Friday — Friday is not mentioned in the conversation.
  • On Sunday — Sunday is not mentioned in the conversation.
