Mr. Turner: Today we are learning two new words: goods and services.

Mr. Turner: Goods are things that people make or grow. You can hold them in your hands. A loaf of bread, a toy truck, and a basket of peaches are all goods.

Mr. Turner: A service is a job that one person does for another person. When a barber cuts your hair, that is a service. When a mail carrier brings letters to your house, that is a service, too.

Mr. Turner: In our town, the bakery sells goods, and the barber shop sells a service.

  • Things people make or grow that you can holdCorrect answer
  • Money that people use to buy things
  • Places where people go to work

Why “Things people make or grow that you can hold” is correct

This tests a key definition from a short lesson. Mr. Turner says, “Goods are things that people make or grow. You can hold them in your hands.” The two new words are taught side by side, so the student has to keep goods and services apart.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Jobs that one person does to help another person — That is what the teacher says a service is.
  • Money that people use to buy things — Money is not part of the lesson.
  • Places where people go to work — The lesson does not describe goods as places.
