Camila: Danny, our science project is due in two weeks. Did you think about what we should test?

Danny: I did. What if we test which kind of cup stops ice from melting the longest? We could try a paper cup, a plastic cup, and a foam cup.

Camila: I like that. We can put the same number of ice cubes in each cup and check them every ten minutes.

Danny: My brother says the foam cup will win for sure. He thinks we should just write that down as our answer right now.

Camila: Let's not jump the gun. We have to do the test first. Then we will know what really happens.

Danny: You're right. I'll bring the cups on Monday, and you can bring a timer.

Camila: Deal. And let's keep all three cups on the same table, so one of them isn't sitting in the sun while the others are in the shade.

What are Camila and Danny planning to find out?

  • How many ice cubes fit in each cup
  • Whether ice melts faster in the sun
  • Which cup keeps ice frozen the longestCorrect answer
  • How long it takes water to freeze in each cup

Why “Which cup keeps ice frozen the longest” is correct

This tests the main point of a conversation. Danny states the question early: which kind of cup stops ice from melting the longest. The rest of the talk is about how to run the test. The correct choice says the same idea in different words ("keeps ice frozen" instead of "stops ice from melting"), which is what the real test usually does.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • How many ice cubes fit in each cup — They plan to put the same number of ice cubes in each cup, but that is part of how they test, not what they want to learn.
  • Whether ice melts faster in the sun — The sun is mentioned only because Camila wants all the cups in the same place.
  • How long it takes water to freeze in each cup — They are watching ice melt, not water freeze.
