Camila: Danny, our science project is due in two weeks. Did you think about what we should test?
Danny: I did. What if we test which kind of cup stops ice from melting the longest? We could try a paper cup, a plastic cup, and a foam cup.
Camila: I like that. We can put the same number of ice cubes in each cup and check them every ten minutes.
Danny: My brother says the foam cup will win for sure. He thinks we should just write that down as our answer right now.
Camila: Let's not jump the gun. We have to do the test first. Then we will know what really happens.
Danny: You're right. I'll bring the cups on Monday, and you can bring a timer.
Camila: Deal. And let's keep all three cups on the same table, so one of them isn't sitting in the sun while the others are in the shade.

Choose the best answer.
Why does Camila want to keep all three cups on the same table?
- So the cups are easy to find on Monday
- So Danny’s brother can watch the test
- So they can share one timer
- So the test is fair to every cupCorrect answer
Why “So the test is fair to every cup” is correct
This asks the student to work out the purpose behind a plan. Camila says she does not want one cup "sitting in the sun while the others are in the shade." The student has to infer what that would do: the sunny cup would melt faster for a reason that has nothing to do with the cup. That is the idea of a fair test, which students meet in science class.
Why the other answers are wrong
- So the cups are easy to find on Monday — Camila never mentions finding the cups. She explains her reason in the same sentence.
- So Danny’s brother can watch the test — The brother is not part of the plan for running the test.
- So they can share one timer — They do plan to use one timer, but that is not the reason Camila gives for the table.
