Coach Salinas: Hello, students. This is Coach Salinas. This Saturday, our school will hold Bike Safety Day in the front parking lot, from nine in the morning until noon.
Coach Salinas: Bring your bike and your helmet. Volunteers will check your brakes and pump up your tires if they are low. Then you can ride through a practice course with stop signs and crosswalks, just like a real street.
Coach Salinas: Every rider must wear a helmet on the course. Your helmet should fit snugly and sit low on your forehead. A helmet that slides around on your head cannot protect you very well.
Coach Salinas: If you don't have a helmet, please come anyway. We will have some free helmets to give away while they last.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What should a student who does not have a helmet do?
- Stay home on Saturday.
- Ride the course without one.
- Buy a helmet in the parking lot.
- Come to the event anyway.Correct answer
Why “Come to the event anyway.” is correct
The answer is in the last part of the announcement: come anyway, because there will be some free helmets. The rule that every rider must wear a helmet might make a student think they should stay home, so this checks that the student listened all the way to the end.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Stay home on Saturday. — Coach Salinas says to come anyway.
- Ride the course without one. — Every rider must wear a helmet on the course.
- Buy a helmet in the parking lot. — The helmets are free, not for sale.
