Choose the best answer.
What does Ms. Kelly mean by "scrambling"?
- Rushing to get work done at the last minuteCorrect answer
- Cooking eggs for dinner late on Thursday night
- Climbing over rocks on a hiking trail
- Mixing up the order of the essay's paragraphs
Why “Rushing to get work done at the last minute” is correct
This tests choosing the right meaning of a word with several meanings. Ms. Kelly warns students not to wait "until the last minute," so "scrambling" here means rushing in a hurry. The wrong choices are real meanings of the word that do not fit the context.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Cooking eggs for dinner late on Thursday night — This is a different meaning of "scramble" that does not fit the situation.
- Climbing over rocks on a hiking trail — This is another meaning of the word that has nothing to do with an essay.
- Mixing up the order of the essay's paragraphs — "Scramble" can mean mix up, but here Ms. Kelly is talking about time, not order.
