You can find this in many kitchens. It looks like a metal bowl, but its bottom and sides are covered with small holes. After you boil pasta, you pour it in here. The hot water drains out through the holes, and the pasta stays inside.

Which object is being described?
- a strainerCorrect answer
- a frying pan
- a measuring cup
- a cutting board
Why “a strainer” is correct
This tests understanding a spoken description of an everyday object. The key details are a bowl shape, many small holes, and pouring pasta into it so the water drains out, which together describe a strainer. On the real test this kind of item often asks the student to click on a picture, so knowing the English name matters less than following the description.
Why the other answers are wrong
- a frying pan — A frying pan has no holes and is used for cooking, not for draining water.
- a measuring cup — A measuring cup holds liquid; it does not let water drain out.
- a cutting board — A cutting board is flat and has no holes.
