Teen Makerspace

Pecan Grove Branch Library: Teen Makerspace

Open to students ages 11 to 17. The makerspace has a 3D printer, two sewing machines, a button maker, and laptops with design software.

Hours: Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Closed Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Before your first visit: Every student must complete a 20-minute safety training. Trainings are held on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. A parent or guardian must also sign a permission form, which you can pick up at the front desk.

3D printing: Bring your design on a USB drive or email it to the front desk. Each student may print one project per week. A print must take less than 2 hours to finish. Prints are free, but you must pick up your print within 7 days.

Questions? Ask for Ms. Carter at the front desk.

Paul has never been to the makerspace. What must he do before he can use the equipment?

  • Pay for his first 3D print at the front desk
  • Email a 3D design to Ms. Carter at the front desk before his first visit
  • Attend a safety training and turn in a signed permission formCorrect answer
  • Visit on a Wednesday afternoon with a parent

Why “Attend a safety training and turn in a signed permission form” is correct

This tests reading a functional text for a specific requirement. The section labeled "Before your first visit" lists two things: a 20-minute safety training and a permission form signed by a parent or guardian. The student needs to find that section and match both parts.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Pay for his first 3D print at the front desk — The notice says prints are free.
  • Email a 3D design to Ms. Carter at the front desk before his first visit — Sending a design is how to print, not a requirement before a first visit.
  • Visit on a Wednesday afternoon with a parent — The makerspace is closed on Wednesdays, and a parent signs a form rather than coming along.
