The question
Read the sentence. Then choose the best answer.
Read the sentence. The underlined word has an error. Coach Ramirez gave Andre and [I] the keys to the equipment room. Which word should replace the underlined word?
- meCorrect answer
- mine
- myself
- my
Why “me” is correct
This tests pronoun case. "Andre and I" receives the keys, so it is an object and needs "me." A quick check is to remove "Andre and": "Coach gave me the keys" sounds right, while "Coach gave I the keys" does not.
Why the other answers are wrong
- mine — "Mine" shows ownership, as in "the keys are mine."
- myself — "Myself" is used only when the speaker already appears in the sentence, as in "I gave myself a break."
- my — "My" must come before a noun, as in "my keys."
