The question
Choose the best answer.
What does Amy mean when she says, "I'm going to sleep on it"?
- She is too tired to talk about the job right now.
- She will think about it more before she decides.Correct answer
- She has decided to say no to the job offer.
- She will work at the hardware store at night.
Why “She will think about it more before she decides.” is correct
This tests a common idiom. 'Sleep on it' means to delay a decision until you have had time to think, often overnight. The clue is that she weighs the money against practice and promises an answer 'tomorrow'.
Why the other answers are wrong
- She is too tired to talk about the job right now. — She is talking about the decision, not about being tired.
- She has decided to say no to the job offer. — She has not decided yet; she will tell them tomorrow.
- She will work at the hardware store at night. — The job is a weekend job, and 'sleep on it' is not about working hours.
