Why does Ms. Garza most likely want the cups on the shelf by the window?

  • So the rain can water the seeds
  • So the seeds stay cold
  • So the plants can get sunlightCorrect answer
  • So the students can count the cups

Why “So the plants can get sunlight” is correct

Ms. Garza says where to put the cups but not why. The student has to use what they know: plants need light to grow, and a window lets sunlight in. Working out a reason that is not said is an inference.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • So the rain can water the seeds — The cups are inside on a shelf, so rain cannot reach them. The students water them with a spoon.
  • So the seeds stay cold — Nothing in the directions is about keeping the seeds cold.
  • So the students can count the cups — Counting the cups is not mentioned, and it would not explain why they go by the window.
