A Postcard from Big Bend
Dear Marisol,
My family is camping at Big Bend National Park in Texas! Yesterday we hiked up a mountain. Today we saw the Rio Grande. It is a big river, and Mexico is on the other side!
At night the sky is so dark that we can see a lot of stars.
See you soon, Carmen
The question
Choose the best answer.
What did Carmen do yesterday?
- She hiked up a mountain.Correct answer
- She saw the Rio Grande.
- She went swimming.
- She went home.
Why “She hiked up a mountain.” is correct
The postcard uses two time words: yesterday they hiked up a mountain, and today they saw the Rio Grande. The student has to match the right event to "yesterday."
Why the other answers are wrong
- She saw the Rio Grande. — Carmen saw the river today, not yesterday.
- She went swimming. — Swimming is not mentioned on the postcard.
- She went home. — Carmen is still camping. She says "See you soon."
