Read this line from the schedule. 2:45 Pack up and go home What does pack up mean?

  • Eat a snack
  • Line up for recess
  • Clean the classroom floor with a broom
  • Put your things in your backpackCorrect answer

Why “Put your things in your backpack” is correct

"Pack up" means to put your things away in a bag or box so you are ready to leave. It comes at the end of the day, right before going home, which is a clue. Two-word verbs like pack up, clean up and line up are hard for English learners because their meaning is not always clear from each word.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Eat a snack — Pack up is not about eating. Lunch is the meal on this schedule.
  • Line up for recess — Recess is at 12:00. Pack up happens at the end of the day.
  • Clean the classroom floor with a broom — Packing up is about your own things, not cleaning the floor.
