Choose the best answer.

This sentence has an error. my friend and i like to swim. Which sentence is written correctly?

  • My friend and i like to swim.
  • my friend and I like to swim.
  • My friend and I like to swim.Correct answer
  • My Friend and I Like to swim.

Why “My friend and I like to swim.” is correct

Two capital-letter rules are at work here: every sentence starts with a capital letter, and the word I is always a capital letter. Choice c fixes both. Choice d adds capitals where they do not belong; ordinary words like friend and like stay lowercase.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • My friend and i like to swim. — The first word is fixed, but i must be a capital I.
  • my friend and I like to swim. — I is fixed, but the sentence must start with a capital M.
  • My Friend and I Like to swim. — Friend and Like are not names or the start of the sentence, so they should not have capitals.
