The question
Choose the best answer.
What will most likely happen to a third grader who does not bring a signed slip?
- The student will have recess inside.
- The student will get a new slip from the bus driver.
- The student will not be able to go on the trip.Correct answer
- The student will go to the zoo on Thursday.
Why “The student will not be able to go on the trip.” is correct
This asks the student to apply what the speaker said to a new case. Ms. Johnson says, “Without a signed slip, you cannot get on the bus,” so a student with no slip cannot ride to the zoo. The answer is not said in those words, so the student has to connect the bus to the trip.
Why the other answers are wrong
- The student will have recess inside. — Everyone has recess inside today because of the rain; it has nothing to do with the slip.
- The student will get a new slip from the bus driver. — A student without a slip cannot get on the bus at all.
- The student will go to the zoo on Thursday. — The trip is on Friday, and no other day is offered.
