The question
Choose the best answer.
What did Luis most likely do at recess?
- He played a soccer game on a muddy field.Correct answer
- He read a book under a tree.
- He helped plant flowers in the garden.
- He sat on a bench and watched.
Why “He played a soccer game on a muddy field.” is correct
This tests drawing a conclusion from several clues. Muddy sneakers, red cheeks, a soccer ball and “We won!” all point to a soccer game. The text never says he played soccer, so the student must put the clues together.
Why the other answers are wrong
- He read a book under a tree. — Reading would not leave his sneakers muddy, and he is holding a soccer ball.
- He helped plant flowers in the garden. — Mud could come from a garden, but the soccer ball and “We won!” point to a game.
- He sat on a bench and watched. — Sitting and watching would not make his cheeks red and his shoes muddy.
