Chloe: Andy, did you hear that the animal shelter on Elm Street is running low on supplies? My mom volunteers there, and she says they need more dog food and old towels.

Andy: Towels? What do they use towels for?

Chloe: The puppies and kittens sleep on them. The towels give them a warm, soft place to sleep.

Andy: We could help. What if we had a bake sale and gave the money to the shelter?

Chloe: Great idea. My grandma makes the best banana bread. I'm sure she'll help us bake.

Andy: And I can ask the principal if we can set up a table outside the gym during the basketball game on Friday night. Lots of families will be there.

Chloe: Perfect. Let's put a big box next to the table too, so people can drop off their old towels.

Why do Chloe and Andy want to have a bake sale?

  • To buy new uniforms for the basketball team
  • To raise money for the animal shelterCorrect answer
  • To sell Chloe's grandma's banana bread at her store
  • To buy a puppy from the shelter

Why “To raise money for the animal shelter” is correct

This checks the main point of the conversation. Chloe explains that the shelter is running low on supplies, and Andy suggests a bake sale and giving the money to the shelter. The student has to connect the problem at the start to the plan that follows.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • To buy new uniforms for the basketball team — The sale will be held at a basketball game, but the money is not for the team.
  • To sell Chloe's grandma's banana bread at her store — Chloe's grandma will help bake, but nothing is said about a store.
  • To buy a puppy from the shelter — The students want to help the shelter, not buy an animal from it.
