Mr. Barrera: Good afternoon, everyone. This is Mr. Barrera. School Picture Day is next Wednesday morning. Today, each of you will take home an envelope with an order form inside.

Mr. Barrera: If your family would like to buy pictures, fill out the form and return the envelope to your teacher by Tuesday. Even if you do not order any pictures, every student will still have a picture taken for the yearbook.

Mr. Barrera: Please do not wear hats on Picture Day, and remember to smile. If you are absent that day, don't worry. There will be a makeup day two weeks later, in the library.

When should families return the order form?

  • by TuesdayCorrect answer
  • next Wednesday morning
  • on the makeup day
  • this afternoon

Why “by Tuesday” is correct

This tests listening for one detail among several dates and times. The announcement mentions this afternoon, Tuesday, next Wednesday, and a makeup day two weeks later. The student has to match the right time to the right action: return the envelope by Tuesday.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • next Wednesday morning — Wednesday is Picture Day itself; the form is due the day before.
  • on the makeup day — The makeup day is only for students who are absent.
  • this afternoon — The envelope goes home this afternoon; it is not due back then.
