The poster says leftover books "will be donated to the public library." What does donated mean?

  • thrown into the trash
  • given away to help othersCorrect answer
  • sold to people in town for money
  • kept for the next swap

Why “given away to help others” is correct

This tests a word in a functional text. The clue is where the books go: to the public library, a place that lends books to everyone. Giving something away so others can use it is what donating means. Students may know the word from food drives or clothing drives at school.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • thrown into the trash — The books are going to a library, which is not the same as throwing them away.
  • sold to people in town for money — Nothing on the poster mentions money.
  • kept for the next swap — The books are leaving the school, so they are not being kept.
