The question
Choose the best answer.
Lucy brings three books to the swap. All of them are in good condition. How many books can she take home?
- threeCorrect answer
- one
- five
- as many as she likes
Why “three” is correct
This asks the student to apply two rules from the poster to a new situation. Each book brought earns one ticket, and each ticket is traded for one book, so three books brought means three books taken home. The number five is a trap for students who remember a number without what it refers to.
Why the other answers are wrong
- one — She gets one ticket for each book she brings, not one ticket in all.
- five — Five is the most books a student may bring, not the number Lucy can take.
- as many as she likes — Each ticket is good for one book, so the number is limited.
