Ms. Parker: Before we start, grab a graduated cylinder from the cart, not a beaker. We need to measure exactly fifty milliliters of water, so check the line at eye level.

Choose the best answer.
Which piece of equipment does Ms. Parker want the students to get?
- A short, wide glass cup with a spout for pouring
- A flat glass dish with a lid
- A small spoon for measuring powder
- A tall, thin container with measuring marksCorrect answer
Why “A tall, thin container with measuring marks” is correct
This tests academic vocabulary in spoken directions. A student must know that a graduated cylinder is the tall, narrow container with lines for measuring, and must also catch the words "not a beaker." On the real test, items like this often ask the student to click the matching picture.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A short, wide glass cup with a spout for pouring — This describes a beaker, which she tells students not to take.
- A flat glass dish with a lid — This is a petri dish; she does not mention it.
- A small spoon for measuring powder — They are measuring water, and she asks for a graduated cylinder.
