Jasmine: Abuela's seventieth birthday is in three weeks, and I still don't know what to give her. She always says she doesn't need anything.

Adrian: What about a video? We could ask everyone in the family to record a short message about a favorite memory with her.

Jasmine: I love that. But half the family lives in Monterrey, and Tío Tony never answers his phone.

Adrian: He always answers our cousin Veronica, though. She lives right down the street from him. We could ask her to collect the videos from everyone over there and send them to us.

Jasmine: Okay. And I'll ask everyone to keep their message under one minute. Otherwise the video will be an hour long.

Adrian: Good idea. I'll put it all together on the laptop. You make the list of who we still need to ask. And remind everybody that it's a surprise.

Why “A birthday gift for their grandmother” is correct

This asks for the main topic of a conversation. Jasmine opens by saying Abuela's seventieth birthday is coming and she needs a gift, and the rest of the talk is about making a video of family memories for her.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A trip to visit family in Monterrey — Relatives in Monterrey will send videos; nobody plans to travel.
  • A surprise party for their cousin Veronica — Veronica is asked to help collect videos.
  • A video for a school project — The video is for Abuela, not for school.
