Jasmine: Abuela's seventieth birthday is in three weeks, and I still don't know what to give her. She always says she doesn't need anything.
Adrian: What about a video? We could ask everyone in the family to record a short message about a favorite memory with her.
Jasmine: I love that. But half the family lives in Monterrey, and Tío Tony never answers his phone.
Adrian: He always answers our cousin Veronica, though. She lives right down the street from him. We could ask her to collect the videos from everyone over there and send them to us.
Jasmine: Okay. And I'll ask everyone to keep their message under one minute. Otherwise the video will be an hour long.
Adrian: Good idea. I'll put it all together on the laptop. You make the list of who we still need to ask. And remind everybody that it's a surprise.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What job does Adrian give himself?
- Calling Tío Tony
- Making the list of people to ask
- Recording a message for Abuela
- Putting the video togetherCorrect answer
Why “Putting the video together” is correct
This is a detail question about who does what. Adrian says, "I'll put it all together on the laptop. You make the list." Listeners must keep track of which speaker takes which job, since both jobs are mentioned close together.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Calling Tío Tony — They plan to go through Veronica because Tío Tony does not answer.
- Making the list of people to ask — Adrian gives that job to Jasmine.
- Recording a message for Abuela — Everyone will record messages, but his own task is to put them together.
