Ms. Parker: Bees visit flowers to get food. They drink a sweet juice from the flowers. It is called nectar.
Ms. Parker: When a bee lands on a flower, a yellow powder called pollen sticks to its fuzzy body.
Ms. Parker: Then the bee flies to another flower, and some of the pollen falls off. The pollen helps the flower make seeds. So bees help plants, and plants help bees.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What do bees drink from flowers?
- Rain water from the leaves
- Yellow pollen
- Nectar, a sweet juiceCorrect answer
- Juice from fruit
Why “Nectar, a sweet juice” is correct
Ms. Parker says bees drink a sweet juice from flowers called nectar. Choice b is tempting because pollen is the other new word in the lesson, but pollen is the powder that sticks to the bee's body.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Rain water from the leaves — Rain is not part of the lesson.
- Yellow pollen — Pollen is a yellow powder that sticks to the bee. The teacher says bees drink nectar.
- Juice from fruit — The sweet juice comes from flowers, not from fruit.
