Ms. Parker: Bees visit flowers to get food. They drink a sweet juice from the flowers. It is called nectar.
Ms. Parker: When a bee lands on a flower, a yellow powder called pollen sticks to its fuzzy body.
Ms. Parker: Then the bee flies to another flower, and some of the pollen falls off. The pollen helps the flower make seeds. So bees help plants, and plants help bees.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What does the pollen help the flower do?
- Grow taller
- Make seedsCorrect answer
- Make nectar
- Turn yellow
Why “Make seeds” is correct
Ms. Parker says, "The pollen helps the flower make seeds." The student has to keep the two new words apart: nectar is the bee's food, and pollen helps the flower make seeds.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Grow taller — The teacher does not say pollen makes flowers taller.
- Make nectar — Nectar is already in the flower. The teacher does not say pollen makes it.
- Turn yellow — The pollen is yellow, but it does not change the flower's color.
