The question

Choose the best answer.

Why should a grown-up cut the fruit?

  • Grown-ups like bananas more.
  • Children cannot eat cut fruit.
  • The fruit must be washed first.
  • A knife can be sharp and cut you.Correct answer

Why “A knife can be sharp and cut you.” is correct

The recipe gives the step but not the reason. The student has to use what they know: cutting needs a knife, and knives can hurt children. Using what you already know together with the text is a key part of making inferences.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Grown-ups like bananas more. — The recipe does not say who likes bananas.
  • Children cannot eat cut fruit. — The fruit cups are made for eating, and the fruit in them is cut.
  • The fruit must be washed first. — The recipe says to wash your hands, not the fruit, and that is not the reason for the grown-up.
