A Rainy Saturday
Rain tapped on the window. Diego wanted to play outside, but the yard was full of mud. "What can we do now?" he asked his sister, Paola.
Paola took some blankets and pillows from the closet. They put the blankets over two chairs. Soon they had a cozy fort.
They read books in the fort all afternoon. "This is even better than the park," Diego said.
The question
Choose the best answer.
Read this sentence from the story. Soon they had a cozy fort. What does cozy mean?
- Wet and cold
- Warm and comfortableCorrect answer
- Big and loud
- Dark and scary
Why “Warm and comfortable” is correct
The fort is made of blankets and pillows, and the children spend all afternoon reading in it. Those clues show it is a warm, comfortable place. Each wrong choice is a pair of words that does not fit a blanket fort.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Wet and cold — The rain is outside. The fort is inside and made of blankets.
- Big and loud — The children read quietly in the fort.
- Dark and scary — Diego says the fort is better than the park, so it is not scary to him.
