Read the story. Then answer the questions.

A Rainy Saturday

Rain tapped on the window. Diego wanted to play outside, but the yard was full of mud. "What can we do now?" he asked his sister, Paola.

Paola took some blankets and pillows from the closet. They put the blankets over two chairs. Soon they had a cozy fort.

They read books in the fort all afternoon. "This is even better than the park," Diego said.

The question

Choose the best answer.

What do Diego and Paola use to make the fort?

  • Blankets and chairsCorrect answer
  • Boxes and tape
  • Sticks and mud
  • Books and a table

Why “Blankets and chairs” is correct

The second paragraph says they put the blankets over two chairs. The student has to find that sentence and pick the pair that matches it. Choice d is tempting because they read books inside the fort.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Boxes and tape — No boxes or tape are in the story.
  • Sticks and mud — The yard is muddy, but they build the fort inside.
  • Books and a table — They read books in the fort. They did not build it with books or a table.
