Choose the best answer.
The poster says the bake sale is "10:00 to 12:00." What does this mean?
- It lasts for ten hours.
- It is open at 10:00 and again at 12:00.
- There are twelve things to buy.
- It starts at 10:00 and ends at 12:00.Correct answer
Why “It starts at 10:00 and ends at 12:00.” is correct
In a time like "10:00 to 12:00," the first time is when something starts and the second is when it ends. The little word "to" carries that meaning. Reading times on flyers and schedules is an everyday skill that English learners may need to be taught.
Why the other answers are wrong
- It lasts for ten hours. — 10 is the start time, not the number of hours.
- It is open at 10:00 and again at 12:00. — The sale is open the whole time between 10:00 and 12:00, not only at those two times.
- There are twelve things to buy. — There are three things for sale. 12:00 is a time.
