The question

Choose the best answer.

Read the sentence. The underlined word has an error. Our class field trip is [in] Friday morning. Which word should replace the underlined word?

  • at
  • to
  • onCorrect answer
  • for

Why “on” is correct

This tests prepositions of time. English uses "on" with days and dates (on Friday, on May 3), "in" with months, years, and parts of the day by themselves (in March, in the morning), and "at" with clock times. Because "Friday" is a day, the sentence needs "on."

Why the other answers are wrong

  • at — "At" is used with clock times, such as "at nine o’clock," not with days.
  • to — "To" shows direction, such as "to the museum," not when something happens.
  • for — "For" shows how long or why, not which day.
