Mr. Turner: Today we are learning how a frog grows. A frog starts as a tiny egg in a pond.
Mr. Turner: When the egg hatches, a tadpole swims out. A tadpole has a long tail, and it lives only in the water.
Mr. Turner: Then the tadpole grows legs, and its tail gets shorter and shorter. At last, it is a frog. A frog can live in the water and on land.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What comes out of a frog egg?
- A small frog
- A fish
- Another egg
- A tadpoleCorrect answer
Why “A tadpole” is correct
Mr. Turner says that when the egg hatches, a tadpole swims out. Many children expect a tiny frog, which is why choice a is tempting. This checks whether the student followed the order of the steps in a short science lesson.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A small frog — The frog comes later. First the egg becomes a tadpole.
- A fish — A tadpole swims like a fish, but it is not a fish.
- Another egg — The egg hatches into a living animal, not another egg.
